Pudelpointer
The Pudelpointer is a versatile hunting dog breed originally hailing from Germany. This breed is recognized for its intelligence, athleticism, and strong work ethic. It's a combination of the best qualities of the Poodle and the Pointer, hence the name Pudelpointer. The Pudelpointer breed was developed in the late 19th century by a German breeder named Baron von Zedlitz. He aimed to create a versatile hunting dog that would be able to work in both field and water. The foundation stock was meticulously chosen with 100 Poodles and 100 Pointers involved in the initial breeding program. He selected the best hunting Poodles and the best hunting English Pointers to create a dog with the best qualities of both breeds - the drive, speed, and agility of the Pointer combined with the intelligence, hypoallergenic coat, and swimming ability of the Poodle.

Genetic Predispositions and Health
Pudelpointers are known to be generally healthy dogs, but as a larger breed they are at risk for developing orthopedic problems, such as hip and elbow dysplasia. Genetic testing is recommended, including for the following specific conditions: hyperuricosoria, degenerative myelopathy, and progressive rod-cone degeneration.
Personality and Behavior
The Pudelpointer is known for its versatile abilities as a gun dog, working equally well in water and on land. They are intelligent, willing to learn, and have a strong drive to work. This breed is also known for its keen nose and tracking abilities. In a home environment, Pudelpointers are loyal, affectionate, and get along well with children. However, they are high-energy dogs and require lots of physical and mental stimulation. They are not suited for apartment living and need a home where they can run and play.

The Pudelpointer is a favorite among hunters because of its strong desire to retrieve, its excellent swimming abilities, and its adeptness at tracking.
Despite its Poodle heritage, the Pudelpointer is not hypoallergenic.
Pudelpointers have been successful in North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) tests.
