The Grand Anglo-Français Tricolore is a breed of scent hound that originated in France. It is a descendant of various Anglo-French hounds that were bred in the early 19th century. The breed was developed by crossing French hounds with English Foxhounds, resulting in a dog with exceptional hunting abilities, especially in tracking game over long distances.
Great Anglo-French Tricolour Hounds are generally healthy dogs. However, they can suffer from hip and elbow dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, and eye disorders such as progressive rod-cone degeneration.
Grand Anglo-Français Tricolore dogs are known for their determined and courageous nature. They are highly skilled scent hounds, making them exceptional hunters with a strong prey drive. As a result, they require regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them content and prevent boredom-induced behavioral issues. They tend to get along well with other dogs, but early socialization and consistent training is important.
The breed was recognized by the United Kennel Club (UKC) in 2006.
While popular in its native France, the Grand Anglo-Français Tricolore is relatively rare outside of its country of origin.
This breed's exceptional sense of smell has made it highly valuable for tracking and hunting various game animals, earning it a reputation as an outstanding hunting companion.
